When the air is compressed, the volume decreases proportionally but all the water vapor remains in the air. When the temperature decreases and reaches a value at which the air becomes saturated, :| the humidity kept before as vapor in the air begins to condense to a liquid. This temperature at which the vapor condenses is called the "Pressure Dew Point".
With an appropriate aftercooler unit, which reduces the temperature of the air produced by the compressor, approximately 60%-70% of the water is condensed and removed with a separator/drain. It is possible to eliminate the remaining 40%-30% with the installation of a BelAir PLS Series dryer.
Damage Caused by Condensation
Condensate corrodes piping, solenoid valves, pneumatic tooling, and other equipment resulting in the user incurring expensive repairs and downtime.
In the case where the compressed air is used as "process air"such as for painting equipment, chemical industry, food-processing, glass factories, flour and raw materials conveying and handling plants, the installation of a Bel Air PLS Series dryer is essential to eliminate the condensate contamination of the production cycle.
